San Diego Prep Football Games To Watch (Playoff Edition)

1-win teams in the playoffs?
You kidding me?

Game of the Week

Division III:
#9 Lincoln Hornets (1-8-1) at #8 Ramona Bulldogs (1-9)

Last Meeting: Nov. 26, 2010 D-III Quarterfinals
Lincoln 41, Ramona 28

Last Saturday's announcement of this year’s section playoff pairings were followed by many complaints from football fans around the county. For obvious reasons, the focus of those complaints were the teams featured in this match-up. I’m sure the majority would agree that a team with only 1 win should not have a shot at a championship but I personally don’t have a problem with it. If a 1 win team just so happens to finish in the top 12 of a weak division then why not give them an opportunity to redeem their season? Let’s say the winner of this game ends up defying the odds and winning the D-III title, would their 1 win regular season make them any less of a championship team? The winner here will have a date with #1 seed Cathedral in next week’s Quarterfinals so I doubt we'll be finding out any time soon. But despite the team records and all the controversy this should be an epic battle between two teams itching to take advantage of a rare opportunity.

SD Prep Football Preview: The Holy Bowl

 #2 St. Augustine Saints
at
#3 Cathedral Catholic Dons
(November 11, 2011)

Last Meeting:
11/12/10 Cathedral 21 @ St. Augustine 28

Manchester Stadium will be packed this Friday when two of the best teams in the county renew their long standing rivalry, and this time the stakes will be high. Not only will the winner claim the Eastern League title, but will also have the #1 seed in the Division 3 playoffs. The lucky folks in attendance should be treated to a hard fought close knit battle between two teams who are evenly matched from top to bottom. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game was decided in an unofficial overtime.
