Chargers pass rush come up big against Jets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (12/23/2012) The Chargers' win over the New York Jets in their final road game of the season came with a few milestones.

The defense recorded 11 sacks against Jets quarterback Greg McElroy who was starting for the first time in his NFL career. It was the most sacks in a single game this season and tied a team record set in 1986.

Late in the third quarter, tight end Antonio Gates caught a 34-yard touchdown pass that set a new team record for career touchdown receptions (82), breaking a tie with Hall of Fame receiver Lance Alworth.

Michael Spurlock set the tone with a 63-yard punt return for the first score of the game.

Two Shonn Green touchdown runs gave the Jets a 14-7 lead going into the second quarter, but the Chargers went on a 20-3 run to pick up the win and finish the season 4-4 on the road.

The Chargers return to Qualcomm Stadium next week to close out the 2012 season against the Oakland Raiders (4-11).
