2013 NFL Draft: Day Two

NEW YORK, N.Y. (04/26/13) The Chargers trade down for the most notable name in the draft, two Aztec prospects get picked up, and a Helix Highlander finds a home with Reggie Bush’s former team.

Round 2

The San Diego Chargers traded their 45th pick for the Arizona Cardinals' 38th pick.

With the 38th overall pick, the San Diego Chargers selected...

Height & Weight: 6’1” 241lbs
Hometown: Laie, Hawai’i
High School: Punahou

The 2012 Heisman trophy finalist was projected to be a first round pick, but for some reason he ended up dropping. Some say it was due to his infamous “catfish” controversy, while others believed he was over hyped after a bad performance in the 2012 BCS National Championship game. Whatever the case may be, the Chargers needed to fill a void at the inside linebacker position after releasing Takeo Spikes, so they made a move for what could be the biggest steal of this year’s draft.

With the 47th overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys selected...

Height & Weight: 6’6” 254lbs
Hometown: Rancho Santa Margarita, California
High School: Santa Margarita Catholic

If his skill set wasn’t scary enough already, the Aztecs’ leading receiver will now have an opportunity to soak up knowledge from one of the best tight ends in the league, Jason Witten. With his excellent hands and wide receiver like route running, Escobar should make a great addition to an already explosive offensive.

With the 54th overall pick, the Miami Dolphins selected...

Height & Weight: 5’11” 192lbs
Hometown: San Diego, California
High School: HELIX CHARTER

Taylor’s draft stock soared after a breakout senior season followed by an impressive performance at the 2013 NFL Combine. With the Dolphins’ lack of depth at corner back, there’s a good chance Taylor could start right away.

Round 3

With the 68th overall pick, the Cleveland Browns selected...

Height & Weight: 5’10” 193lbs
Hometown: Inglewood, California
High School: St. John Bosco

McFadden was recruited by San Diego State as a wide receiver before converting to corner back. That proved to be the right move as he would go to become a three-time first-team all-Mountain West selection and set a school record for passes broken up. He will most likely compete for the Brown’s #2 corner back spot opposite Joe Haden.

With the 76th overall pick, the San Diego Chargers selected...

Height & Weight: 6’2” 206lbs
Hometown: Greensboro, North Carolina
High School: Northern Guilford/Grimsley

The Chargers added to their talented crop of receiving weapons by selecting Cal’s all-time leader in receptions. Allen was projected to be an early first round pick before an injury to his left knee cut his season short and sabotaged his pre-draft workouts.
