June 15, 2013 5:30 p.m. PST

After closing out another successful regular season, it’s now win or go home for the San Diego Surge as they get set to take on the Las Vegas Showgirlz in the opening round of the Women’s Football Alliance playoffs.

When these teams met in week 7, the defending national champions pulled off a 32-22 win despite a great effort from the Showgirlz. This game will mark their fourth meeting with the Surge owning a 3-0 advantage in the series.

In week four, the Surge suffered a 40-18 road loss to the Sacramento Sirens. It was their first and only regular season loss in team history. Since then the Surge have won four straight games by outscoring their opponents 185-34.

The Showgirlz will be looking for their first playoff victory since 2010. They come into this game with one of the most dominate rushing attacks in the league. With running back Shemika Finks leading the way with 1,376 yards on the ground, the Showgirlz are 41 Jennifer Cowen yards away from being the only team in the league with two 1,000-yard rushers.

The winner of this contest will move on to the second round where they will face the Pacific Warriors or Sacramento Sirens on June 22nd.
