Chargers select TCU CB Jason Verrett with 1st round pick

With the 25th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers selected Jason Verrett, a cornerback out of Texas Christian University.

While Verrett may be undersized at 5'9" and 189 pounds, his competitiveness and explosive play could make this a great pick for the Chargers, who's lacking at the cornerback position after releasing Derek Cox this offseason.

Verrett earned 2013 co-Big 12 defensive player of the year honors after putting up 39 tackles, 14 passes deflections, 3.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble. He was also one of the top performers in the combine after running a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash (2nd among CBs) and recording an impressive 39.0 inches in the vertical jump.

He could possibly be a match-up problem when going against taller wide receivers, but he's been known to hold his own, and isn't afraid to make his presence felt by delivering a big hit.
