2015 Prep Football Preseason Rankings: #2 Oceanside Pirates

#2 Oceanside Pirates

Location: Oceanside, CA
School Colors: Green, Black, & White
Division: I
League: Avocado West
Championships: 2 (State), 15 (Section), 21 (League)
Head Coach: David Rodriguez (1st Season)

2014 Recap: 14-1 Open Division Champions (4-0 Avocado West, 1st)

It was a typical season for John Carroll's Oceanside Pirates. The perennial powerhouse dominated their way to a second straight Open Division title game appearance, where they knocked off Helix in a close battle. The Pirates took their unblemished record to the Division I State Championship, but suffered a devastating 68-7 loss to Folsom. It's not the way you would want to send off the most accomplished head coach in San Diego Section history, but it doesn't take away from the outstanding legacy Carroll leaves behind.

2015 Outlook

With Carroll riding off into the sunset after 26 seasons, there will be plenty of uncertainty surrounding the future of Oceanside Football. David Rodriguez obviously have some giant shoes to fill, but the Pirates should be in good hands due to the former assistant's familiarity of the program. His theme for the new era is "Honor the past and attack the future".

As of now, Rodriguez will have a tough task ahead of him as he inherits an inexperienced roster with only five returning starters. On top of that, he will be without senior Isaia Paopao who is out for the season after tearing his ACL during the spring.
