TORERO STADIUM – Reid Sinnett threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns, but it was Daniel Tolbert's clutch interception with a minute left to play that helped the University of San Diego Toreros (1-2) hold off the Harvard Crimson (0-1) 31-23 Saturday afternoon.
The win was their first in four all-time meetings against Harvard.
Michael Bandy led all receivers with eight catches for 159 yards and a 65-yard touchdown reception on the opening play from scrimmage. Sophomore tight end Dalton Kincaid also proved to be a huge target, racking up 104 yards and a 57-yard score off three receptions.
Following an 18-yard touchdown strike from Sinnett to Alex Spadone, the Toreros owned a commanding 24-0 lead going into halftime, but Harvard rallied in the second half by outscoring USD 23-7, beginning with Jake Smith's 75-yard touchdown pass to Cody Chrest on the first play of the third quarter.
Defensive end Kevin Glajchen had a big day in the trenches with a season-high 10 tackles (four for a loss), as well as two sacks and two quarterback hurries.
The Toreros will enjoy a second bye week before opening their Pioneer Football League schedule against visiting Marist on Saturday, October 5th.
