2019 CIF San Diego Champions Crowned

After another outstanding series of CIF San Diego Section Championship games, it's now time to root for the entire county of San Diego as six of our seven champions get set to represent us in the CIF State Playoffs.

Congratulations to Helix, Oceanside, El Camino, La Jolla, Serra, Francis Parker, and Foothills Christian on their hard-earned victories.

2019 CIF San Diego Open Division Champions
Helix Highlanders (10-1)
Defeated Carlsbad 28-21

After a great defensive effort forced a 0-0 tie at the half, both teams went on to combine for 49 points in the second, but it was Helix that held off Carlsbad's late rally to win the team's second Open Division title in three seasons.

2019 CIF San Diego Division I Champions
Oceanside Pirates (10-4)
Defeated Lincoln 28-10

The nine-seed Oceanside Pirates had to travel to No. 8 Eastlake, No. 1 Steele Canyon, and No. 4 Madison to get to the finals, but it was all worth it after a convincing triumph over the No. 2 Lincoln Hornets. With the score tied 7-7 early in the third quarter, a sack and forced fumble by Trejan Apodaca led to a scoop and score by Jalen Ramsey to give Oceanside a 14-7 lead. A Lincoln field goal cut the advantage to 14-10, but the Pirates found the end zone twice to hold off the Hornets and extend their all-time section-leading CIF title count to 17.

2019 CIF San Diego Division II Champions
El Camino Wildcats (8-6)
Defeated Bishop's 75-59

Bishop's junior quarterback Tyler Buchner had a monster performance putting up 636 yards of total offense and accounting for eight touchdowns (5 rushing, 3 passing). The top-seeded Knights held what looked like a commanding 45-20 lead at the half, but a 55-14 run by El Camino ended their undefeated streak and title hopes. This game set a new CIF San Diego Section Championship record with 134 combined points.

2019 CIF San Diego Division III Champions
La Jolla Vikings (9-4)
Defeated Scripps Ranch 17-10

La Jolla won its first section title since 1993 following a hard-fought victory over the previously-undefeated Scripps Ranch Falcons, who won the regular-season meeting 17-7. Scripps Ranch had a 10-7 lead at halftime, but the Vikings left the Falcons scoreless for the rest for the game as they put up 10 unanswered points to seal the victory.

2019 CIF San Diego Division IV Champions
Serra Conquistadors (11-2)
Defeated Santana 37-7

A 10-sack outing by a highly-productive Serra defense helped sparked the program's first-ever section championship. On offense, the Conquistadors took all their trips to the end zone on the ground. Brevin Lingao had 12 carries for 129 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Timmy Zebroski scrambled for 95 yards and three scores. Dustin Ellison racked up 66 yards and the final touchdown of the game.

2019 CIF San Diego Division V Champions
Francis Parker Lancers (8-5)
Defeated Castle Park 24-21

A back of forth contest came down to a 27-yard last-second field goal by Cito Miller, who nailed it to give his Francis Parker Lancers their eighth section championship victory.

2019 CIF San Diego 8-Man Champions
Foothills Christian Knights (11-0)
Defeated San Diego Jewish Academy 65-0

The Foothills Christian Knights cruised to their third 8-man crown and will be the only football team in the San Diego Section to go unbeaten in 2019. This also marks the team's third championship win in four seasons under head coach Joe Mackey.
