Palo Verde Valley runs past Mission Bay, earns 1st section title

EL CAJON (11/26/2021) The top-seeded Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets (11-2) racked up 450 total rushing yards to defeat the No. 2 seed Mission Bay Buccaneers (10-3), 41-19, in the San Diego Section Division V Championship at Grossmont High School on Friday night.

Markus Macon led all rushers with 14 carries for 209 yards. His one-yard touchdown run gave Palo Verde a 14-0 lead with 9:49 left in the first half.

The Buccaneers answered back when Clash Orsborn connected with Jack Ryan for a 10-yard score, cutting the lead to 14-7, but Aizik Gonzales' 14-yard touchdown gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-7 advantage at the half.

The second half belonged to the Desert League champions from Blyth, as the Buccaneers had no answer for Palo Verde's unique rushing attack. After the game, Xzavier Berjarano put his celebration on hold to speak with us. The junior contributed with two touchdown runs to help his team earn its first state playoff berth.
