The Scripps Ranch Falcons (13-1) are 2021 Division 2-A CIF State Champions following a hard-fought 31-28 victory over the Wilcox Chargers (10-5) of Santa Clara. Jax Leatherwood completed 21 of 37 passes for 337 yards and four touchdown passes, including the game-winning toss to Dean Paley. Three of Leatherwood's touchdowns were caught by Conor Lawlor, who finished with seven catches for 199 yards and an interception on defense.
Scripps Ranch led 21-0 at the half but found themselves down 28-24 late in the fourth quarter after the Chargers rallied back with a 28-3 run in the second half. Leatherwood led the Falcons' offense down the field for an 80-yard drive that ended with Paley's 10-yard game-winning score. On the ensuing drive, Lamont Wilkerson II sealed the win with an interception with 10 seconds left to play, giving the Falcons its first State Championship in program history.
