Prep Football: Games to Watch (Week Seven)

Game of the Week

#2 Carlsbad Lancers (5-0) at #5 Mission Hills Grizzlies (4-1)

Carlsbad dominated the non-league portion of their schedule, outscoring opponents 220-36. Julian Sayin, has been on fire, completing 78.9 percent of his 95 passes for a total of 1,026 yards, 13 touchdown passes with no interceptions. The Lancers' passing game is also powered by an outstanding receiving corps consisting of Josh Ball, Jason St. Paul, Will Cianfrini, and Griffin Rosenbloom. On the defensive side of the ball, Carlsbad features a formidable lineup led by Thomas McCormick, Luke Ferrelli, Jude McLellan, and Josh Draher.

Mission Hills, led by sophomore quarterback Troy Huhn, has also been on a tear, having outscored their opponents 121-60 this season. Their only setback came in a 27-17 loss to the No. 3 Granite Hills in their season opener. The Grizzlies rely heavily on the contributions of receivers Jayden Williams, Ryder Ridill, and Keaton Smith. Additionally, their defense is anchored by standout players such as defensive end Jonathon Class and defensive back Jalen Veasey.

Both teams split their last six meetings with a 3-3 record. However, the Lancers have the momentum coming into this game, having won the last three matchups. Last season's contest ended in a 16-10 result in favor of Carlsbad.
