Prep Football: Running Backs who can put up big numbers this season

San Diego is the home of two Super Bowl MVPs and four Heisman Trophy winners, all feats accomplished by running backs. So it's no surprise that the 2019 season will feature another crop of talented ball carriers showcasing their skills throughout the county.

This is not a rankings list, therefore all players will be listed in alphabetical order via last name.

Josh Butler / Poway / Senior 🏈
2018 Second-Team All-CIF San Diego selection.

Aiden Calvert / Mater Dei Catholic / Senior
Could join PT Gates & CJ Verdell on the program's list of all-time great Running Backs.

Byron Cardwell / St. Augustine / Junior 🏆
Currently has seven scholarship offers from FBS programs.
Scored two Rushing TDs in 2018 Division I title win.

Jose Devoux / Holtville / Junior
Led Imperial Valley in Rushing Yards (1501) & TDs (22) in 2018.

Dustan Ellison / Serra / Junior
Hard-nosed runner helped Serra earn its first league title since 2013.

David Flores / Vista / Senior
Second among San Diego Section fullbacks in Rushing Yards (1,152) & TDs (13) last season.

Mo Jackson / San Diego / Junior 💍🏆
Scored game-clinching TD in Cavers' first-ever State Championship win.

Zion Jackson / El Camino / Senior
Rushed for over 100 yards in each of the final three games of last season.

2018 First-Team All-Palomar League.

Manai Hazlett / Del Norte / Junior

On April 5, 2019, Hazlett was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. He was coming off an outstanding sophomore campaign where he broke his school's single-season rushing record.
