Prep Football Preview: Mount Miguel @ Santana

Mount Miguel Matadors at Santana Sultans (October 28, 2011)

Last Meeting: Oct. 22, 2010 Mount Miguel 41, Santana 10

Is it safe to call this game the Grossmont Valley League Championship? You could assume it is since the remaining opponents between these two are El Capitan (1-6) and Monte Vista (1-6). Santana will enter this game with a perfect 8-0 record but due to an unimpressive schedule, they have received the same lack of respect in local media polls as an unbeaten non-BCS program in college football. Much respect could be earned with a victory over Mount Miguel. The Matadors are coming off of two 50+ point victories since facing their only defeat of the season at Helix.

SD Prep Football Preview: San Diego @ Kearny

San Diego Cavers Kearny Komets
(October 21, 2011)

Last Meeting:
11/15/10 Kearny 39 @ San Diego 38 (OT)

During the opening minutes of a league game at Morse two weeks ago, The San Diego Cavers’ 2011 season took an unfortunate turn. Senior quarterback and team captain Khari Kimbrough suffered a season-ending compound fracture to his left leg and the game would end up being postponed. The Cavers went into their much-needed bye the following week. With uncertainty at the quarterback position, the Cavers will now have the task of visiting a high scoring Kearny team that’s fresh off a road win over Coronado. The Komets have been victorious against San Diego three of the last four times they played and are currently sitting on top of the Central League standings with a perfect 3-0 league record.

Preview: St Augustine @ Mira Mesa

St. Augustine Saints at Mira Mesa Marauders
October 14th, 2011

Last Meeting: 11/05/10 St. Augustine 29 Mira Mesa 21

Eastern League play opens up with a bang when two of its best teams go at it in the most anticipated game of this week. St. Augustine hopes to keep their perfect season alive when they visit a Mira Mesa team that’s in need of a confidence booster after blowing a 21-7 halftime lead last week in their loss to Madison. The Saints should come into this game very confident after leaving Eastlake with a nail biting come from behind victory.

Last Meeting: 10/08/10 Mount Miguel 7 @ Helix 34

The Claymore Sword will be on the line when these long time rivals duke it out for East County bragging rights. Helix has been on a roll since losing their season opener to Eastlake. After running through their last three challengers by an average of 30 points, they now have to face what could be their biggest challenge of the season so far. Unbeaten Mount Miguel should come into this game hungry for revenge and ready take over as the premier team in the East County.
