After the San Diego Sting folded prior to the 2014 season, the Stars emerged to take it's place as the North County's women's football franchise. Despite big time play from running back Denise "Tommy" Thomas and a highly productive offensive line, the Stars ended their inaugural season with just two wins, both at the expense of the Tucson Monsoon.

Despite big time play from running back Denise "Tommy" Thomas and a highly productive offensive line, the Stars ended their inaugural season with just two wins, both at the expense of the Tucson Monsoon.
If losing their leading rusher and scorer wasn't enough, the addition of the Sacramento Sirens to an already tough division should make things even more difficult for the second-year franchise.
Stars head coach and team owner Calvin McClain isn't fazed by the competition boost.
"That's a good thing," McClain says. "Anybody who plays sports wants to play the best. That's how you get better."
"I think we'll be alright going into [the season]," McClain added.
While the Stars are expected to have an upgraded group of receivers and defensive linewomen, they also return four IWFL All-Stars to an offensive line that was named the team's offensive MVP as a unit in 2014.
"The offensive line was the catalyst of our team last season, and this season it's going to be the same," McClain says. "We're just going to have to ground and pound, because that's what makes our team, and that's who we are."
Newcomer Renea Hickman will replace Thomas as the Stars' leader in the ground attack.
