Rebellion adds to best start in team history following shutout at Seattle

KENT, WA (06/05/2021) The fourth-ranked San Diego Rebellion improves to 4-0 after defeating the 11th-ranked Seattle Majestics (1-2) Saturday night 21-0. They will enjoy a bye next week before ending the regular season slate with a two-game home stretch.

Like the first meeting, which ended with San Diego pulling off a 21-12 win to open the season, both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. The Rebellion struck first when Mykaleen Hiura's pass was intercepted by Felicia Lilo and returned the other way for the first touchdown of the game.

The second pick-six of the year for the Rebellion defense gave San Diego a 7-0 advantage at halftime.

Facing fourth and goal, Knengi Martin connected with leading receiver Sammi Heck, who took the screen pass 15 yards to the corner of the endzone for the fourth touchdown of her rookie campaign. The clutch play extended the Rebellion lead to 14-0 late in the third quarter.

Martin would score again in the final quarter on a 31-yard scramble that proved to be the game-winner.

Seattle's final chance to put points on the board ended with Hiura's pass towards the end zone getting picked off by linebacker Mercedes Tyler, who sealed the team's third straight shutout victory.

The Rebellion are scheduled to host the Las Vegas Silver Stars at Torrey Pines High School on June 19th.
