Aztecs fall to Fresno State in MWC opener

Fresno State 52 San Diego State 40

San Diego State got off to a hot start leading 21-7 at the end of the first quarter, but three consecutive turnovers in the second quarter turned into 21 unanswered points for Fresno State. The Bulldogs led 36-27 at halftime.

The Aztecs regained the lead early in the third quarter after some turnovers of their own. A forced fumble by Vaness Harris led to Brice Butler’s 8-yard touchdown catch.
On the ensuing drive, the Bulldogs drove all the way down to the Aztec’s goal line only to be picked off by Leon McFadden. McFadden returned it 96 yards for a touchdown and gave the Aztecs a 40-36 lead with 09:09 left in the third quarter.
That would be the last positive play for the Aztecs. The Bulldogs would go on to take advantage of more Aztec turnovers and put up 17 more unanswered points to seal the win.

Chargers are “white hot” in home opener

Chargers 38 Titans 10

QUALCOMM STADIUM (09-16-12) In an attempt to beat the scorching heat, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) sported an all-white look in their blowout win over the Tennessee Titans (0-2).

A pre-game ceremony was held prior to kickoff to honor the late Junior Seau and officially retire his #55 jersey. He joins Lance Alworth and Dan Fouts as the only players to have their jersey numbers retired by the Chargers.

With Antonio Gates on the sideline nursing a rib injury, tight end Dante Rosario stepped up and caught a career high three touchdown passes.

Running Back Jackie Battle entered the game in the fourth quarter and gave a much needed boost to the Chargers rushing attack. He put up two goal line touchdown runs to seal the win.

Prep Football Preview: La Costa Canyon at Poway

#5 La Costa Canyon Mavericks @ #2 Poway Titans (September 7, 2012)

After dominating their season openers, Poway and La Costa Canyon will face off in what should be an exciting game between Division II title contenders from the North County.

Poway’s explosive defense held Scripps Ranch to only seven points and 93 total yards last week. They will need a similar performance if they plan on stopping La Costa Canyon’s effective rushing attack led by senior running back Deon Dickey.
