ESCONDIDO, CA (06/16/2018) Knengi Martin put up three rushing touchdowns to propel the San Diego Rebellion over the visiting Everett Reign (6-3) in the first round of the WFA Division II Playoffs.

The win advances the Rebellion (7-2) to the Pacific Region Finals where they'll take on the Mile High Blaze (6-2) in Denver, Colorado on June 30th.

San Diego Rebellion secures home playoff berth

With the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Region, the San Diego Rebellion will host its postseason debut against the Everett Reign (WA) this Saturday at Orange Glen High School.

The winner will travel to Denver, Colorado to take on the Mile High Blaze in the American Conference Semifinals.

With yesterday's 43-0 win over Ventura, the Rebellion ended their inaugural regular-season slate with a 6-2 record.

The Reign (6-2) comes to town looking to bounce back from a controversial loss to Portland that moved them below San Diego in the Massey Ratings, a ranking sytem used by the Women's Football Alliance to determine playoff seeding.

CLOVIS, CA (06/18/2017) The No. 3 seeded San Diego Surge (7-3) will advance to its fifth-ever conference championship game after pulling off a stunning victory over the No. 1 seed Central Cal War Angels (7-1) in the second round of the WFA Playoffs Saturday night.

Surge set to defend conference title at Dallas

For the third time in team history, a Dallas team will be the final obstacle standing between the San Diego Surge and a trip to the WFA National Championship. Only this time they'll be taking on a highly talented first-year franchise instead of the Diamonds, who folded after its 2013 national championship appearance.

"It's going to be a tough one," Surge head coach Mike Suggett said. "They're going to be a big physical team like Central Cal, and they have the speed and athleticism we saw from Seattle."

The Surge are 3-0 in conference championships, however, this will be the first time they play the game outside of San Diego County. Last season they defeated the Kansas City Titans 59-14 in front of a sold out crowd at Santee Community Stadium.

Surge advances to second straight conference title game

SANTEE (07/11/2015) Alexis Snyder rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns to help power the San Diego Surge (9-1) to a 57-27 triumph over the previously undefeated Seattle Majestics (9-1) Saturday night.

The win clinches their second straight berth in the American Conference Championship where they will take on the Dallas Elite, who will host the contest following a 70-14 rout over the Kansas City Titans.

The Majestics set the tone during the opening kickoff by surprising the Surge with an onside kick. Seattle recovered and followed up with a 7-yard pass by Rachel Woods to Tessla Rennie that was fumbled and recovered in the end zone by Julia McComas.

Breakdown

With revenge on their minds after a heart-breaking loss in the regular season finale, the Surge survived a hostile first round playoff battle against a confident Central Cal team who was looking to legitimize their upset win.

They now draw Seattle in the conference semifinals for the second straight season. The Northwest division champions will be seeking some revenge of their own after their 2014 season ended with the visiting Surge overcoming a 20-16 halftime deficit with 20 unanswered points.

The Majestics haven't been defeated since.

"They do the right thing," Surge head coach Mike Suggett said. "They won't beat themselves, they're well coached, they play their positions, and know their responsibilities."

The winner of this game will face the Dallas Elite or Kansas City Titans in the American Conference Championship.

SANTEE (06/27/2015) This first-round playoff bout had all the makings of a classic grudge match between bitter rivals. It featured hard hits, flaring tempers, multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, and a hard fought battle by two teams with a short but storied history.

Things got so heated, the referees needed a police escort after the game due to alleged threats by the War Angels' sideline.

Despite all the dramatics, the San Diego Surge (8-1) came away with a 27-7 victory and will move on to the conference semifinals, where they'll host the Seattle Majestics (9-0).

Going into the opening week of the WFA playoffs, the San Diego Surge find themselves in a unique position; facing a team they loss to just two weeks prior.

The 23-14 setback on June 13th was only the second regular season loss the Surge has ever been dealt, and is being called one of the biggest upsets in league history. While the Surge will be seeking redemption, the War Angels should come into this game highly confident with momentum on their side.

This will be their third meeting of the season with both teams earning a win on their home field. The team that prevails will face the Seattle Majestics or Tacoma Trauma in the conference semifinals on July 11th.

Ten Surge named WFA All-Americans

The San Diego Football Network would like to congratulate the ten members of the San Diego Surge who were named to the Women's Football Alliance 2015 All-American Team this weekend.

The Surge completed its regular season schedule with a 7-1 record and will host the Central Cal War Angels in the first round of the WFA Playoffs. The game takes place on Saturday, June 27th.

CARSON, CA (06/06/2015) The San Diego Surge (7-0) are still undefeated after knocking off the Pacific Warriors (5-2) for the second time this season. With the win, the Surge not only earned their fifth straight division title, but it also marked the 50th victory in franchise history.

Since making their debut during the 2011 season, the Surge have won 38 regular season games (two awarded via forfeit) and 12 in the postseason, including their win in the 2012 WFA National Championship game.

Breakdown

Two weeks removed from their last visit to the gridiron, the undefeated Surge are set to close out their regular season schedule with a critical two-game road slate, beginning with a week one rematch against the team that gave them the most fits this season. The Surge came away with a 73-31 triumph over the Warriors that night, but turned the ball over four times and allowed the most points in the history of the series. The Warriors recovered from the loss by winning five straight games, including a 38-34 thriller over the Central Cal War Angels last week. 

A win for the Surge would guarantee at least a share of the Pacific West division title, and a shot at winning it outright when they visit Central Cal on June 13th. If the Warriors could come away with their first-ever win in the series, it would force a first-place tie and create an opportunity to share or clinch the crown outright during their regular season finale at Arizona.

Surge prepared for physical matchup with Central Cal

For the second straight season, the San Diego Surge (3-0) and Central Cal War Angels (3-0) will meet in a battle of unbeatens with sole possession of first place in the Pacific West up for grabs. After kicking off their 2015 schedules with an unfavorable strength of opponents, this game should provide the first true test of the season for both teams.

"It's a nice little rivalry we've been building over the last two or three years," Surge head coach Mike Suggett told us after his team defeated Arizona last Saturday. "They got a really young physical team and they're always giving us a real physical match. So it will be exciting to see."

Surge not satisfied with season-opening win over Pacific

SANTEE (04/11/2015) The San Diego Surge (1-0) opened the 2015 season with a 73-31 rout over the visiting Pacific Warriors (0-1), but after the game, there was a feeling of dissatisfaction from Surge players and coaches.

While a 42-point win is nothing to sneeze at, there was a legit reason for their disappointment.

2014 Recap: 11-1 (American Conference Champions)

With the return of numerous veterans who played key roles in their 2012 championship season, the San Diego Surge looked poised to bring home another title. After prevailing over every opponent (and travel rule) that stood in their way, the Surge made it back to the WFA national title game. Unfortunately they would suffer a heart-breaking blowout loss to the Boston Militia, the same team that halted their championship hopes in 2011.

San Diego Surge unveils 2015 Roster

After closing out the last of three open tryouts, the San Diego Surge released it's official roster for the 2015 season. The defending WFA American Conference champions return 25 players from last season, including all 10 All-American selections.

Surge standout becomes San Diego's first female varsity football head coach

On Tuesday, U-T San Diego reported San Diego High's hiring of Knengi Martin as it's new head coach of the varsity football team. She replaces Doug Packwood who recently decided to step down after three years with the Cavers.

This move makes Martin the first woman in CIF San Diego Section history to head coach a prep football team at the varsity level. According to Max Preps, she could possibly be just the second in California.

Before the unexpected promotion, Martin served as the head coach for the Cavers' freshman and JV squads.

Surge fall to Boston in the WFA National Championship

CHICAGO (08/02/2014) In a battle between two of the best teams in the Women's Football Alliance, the Boston Militia (11-0) earned it's third league title with a 69-34 win over the San Diego Surge (11-1) in the 2014 WFA National Championship.

Early turnovers and an inability to stop the run proved to be costly for the Surge after the Militia capitalized off three first half fumbles with 21 points.

Militia running back Whitney Zelee earned MVP honors after exploding for six rushing touchdowns.

In a losing effort, Surge quarterback Melissa Gallegos recorded three touchdown passes, while Surge MVP winner Alexis Snyder found the end zone three times on the ground.

Surge set to face Boston in the WFA National Championship

After rolling over every team they faced this season, the American Conference champion San Diego Surge (11-0) will finally meet their match when they square off against the National Conference champion Boston Militia (10-0) in the 2014 WFA National Championship.

The game takes place at Lane Stadium in Chicago on Saturday, August 2nd with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PST. You can watch it on PSBMN or Livestream.

Along with their second national title, the Surge will be looking for redemption after falling to the Militia 34-19 in the 2011 championship game.
